Which standard covers magnesium sacrificial anodes?

ASTM B843 is the governing specification. CathPro manufactures both grades under it: standard-potential AZ63B (H-1) and high-potential M1C.

What is the difference between standard-potential and high-potential magnesium anodes?

Standard-potential AZ63B contains about 90% magnesium, 6% aluminum and 3% zinc and is commonly used in lower-resistivity soils. High-potential M1C is made from high-purity magnesium with a more negative driving potential (about −1.7 V), so it is selected for higher-resistivity soils and more demanding environments.

Are prepackaged magnesium anodes available?

Yes. Anodes can be supplied prepackaged in a permeable cloth bag with prepared backfill and factory-attached lead wire, ready for direct installation in soil.

Can magnesium anodes be produced in custom weights and dimensions?

Yes. Standard American weights are available from stock patterns, and non-standard anodes are cast to the customer drawing, including core and insert configuration.
